I have illustrated this idyllic scene showing Amanda wearing her Shepherdess’s coat at the height of Summer in the Hay Meadows with her nine children, animals, wildlife, insects, flowers and Clive on a tractor in the distance on their Ravenseat farm in North Yorkshire.
It took me a long time to create this scene using watercolour and gouache, a thick watercolour. I love adding detail and telling a story in a story! Amanda and her sheepdog Kate look adoringly at each other, the children play happily, picking flowers, chatting to each other and racing through the fields. There are some sheep, Tony the Pony with 3 girls surrounding him, a Curlew, mole, hares, butterflies and lots more besides.
My background to painting outside stems from early childhood. No matter what the weather - I'll always try and paint outside of my studio to capture the subject matter be it animals, landscapes or as is often the case - a combination!
Beautiful autumn colouring this year inspired me to capture the cherry trees on the stray in Harrogate - slightly windy conditions made the outdoors challenging but well worth the effort - !
Had a fabulous time at the gardens of Monet in the tranquil village of Giverny. Made all the more exciting when a massive storm hit the village the evening we arrived - ended up eating my Sea Bass in a plate full of rainwater..... as the restaurant got deluged!
