The Spa Town of Harrogate is full of impressive, historical buildings, The Royal Pump Room however is one I have always wanted to paint. It was built in 1842 and built on a site of a sulphur well. it was from here that 1500 glasses were served per day to the Victorians for medicinal purposes.
I loved capturing this beautiful octagonal building in acrylic paint over the Summer, capturing the muted tones of the stone and details of The Pump Room, bathed in warm sunshine. A blackbird hopped by. The foliage and flowers were painted using moss, leaves and twigs.
The Royal Pump Room celebrates its 180th anniversary in 2022. It houses a museum which tells the story of this building.
