Fine Bone English China by Duchess China 1888 made in Stoke-on-Trent, England/ Watercolour illustration by Anita Bowerman called ‘New Beginnings – Spring’ from the Yorkshire Shepherdess collection.
The illustration on the mug shows Amanda Owen, The Yorkshire Shepherdess with her sheepdog Kate hugging her as she looks fondly at a proud sheep and twin lambs. They are situated on a river bank next to a pack horse bridge at Ravenseat Farm.
Eight of her nine children are shown, holding lambs, chicks or Raven cradling a calf. Clive is on his Massey Ferguson tractor and Reuben on his scrambler motorbike in the distance. Chalky the terrier is at the left-hand side looking mischievously on.
Daffodil and Speedwell Spring flowers are depicted along with butterflies, hares, rabbits and ducks with ducklings.
