Spring in Harrogate is so uplifting. I set up my easel, on the Stray opposite the famous Montpellier Quarter to paint part of this very well-known street and captured the plethora of Crocuses and buildings, finishing it off in my Dove Tree Art Gallery. I used gouache, a thick, opaque watercolour paint which is great for depicting detail and lent itself to this scene. You can see the famous Bettys Tea Room at the corner, the Blues Bar, Slingsby Gin and other notable shops. Also please see, the carving in a tree which was specially created for the Tour de France 2014 when it finished in Harrogate. There is no one around except wildlife, as it was early in the morning. Spot the chubby pigeon feasting on the Crocuses and two Blue Tits in the trees.
The paper is deckled at the edge and float mounted. It would look lovely in a white frame and would suit most decors
