Snowy Fun and Festivity at The Piece Hall, Halifax (Original Painting, Unframed)

I illustrated this painting of the magnificent Piece Hall for the 2023 Yorkshire Air Ambulance Christmas Card – the helicopter and Christmas tree were added later.

Piece Hall located in Halifax, Yorkshire is a former Cloth Hall build in 1779. Pieces of cloth were traded from the rooms situated all around the quadrangle and it would have been bustling. It has recently had a renaissance, having been refurbished. Here you can now find restaurants and upmarket shops and an art gallery. It has also become one of the places to hold pop concerts too.

I initially sketched this view outside and then in my Dove Tree Art Gallery in Harrogate painted this scene using gouache, a thick watercolour. I added children playing.
