Almscliffe Crag Original PaintingAlmscliffe Crag is a stunning Millstone Grit outcrop situated near Huby, Harrogate, North Yorkshire. There have been settlements in the countryside around it dating back to Bronze Age. I am completely drawn and inspired to paint this almost spiritual site. If you stand on top of Almscliffe Crag you can see a 360 degree view of Yorkshire as far as the eye can see. I painted this scene en Plein Air one hot sunny day looking up towards Almscliffe Crag sitting in a field surrounded by Buttercups and Butterflies in gouache, a thick watercolour. I love illustration and putting detail into my pictures as you can see here. I have painted it on thick watercolour paper with handmade deckled edges. This colourful painting would make a perfect present for anyone who lives around Huby, Weeton or North Rigton and loves Almscliffe Crag, indeed anyone who lives in Harrogate and the surrounding areas of Yorkshire. Also it would be perfect to add a je ne sais quoi to any interior decor either neutral colour scheme or colourful. It is available unframed or float mounted and framed in a brushed wooden frame. You can collect it from The Dove Tree Art Studio or speak to me and delivery can be arranged. Image measures 37cm x 28cm.
Enjoy York Map Limited Edition Laser cutYork is situated in the North East of England and was founded by the ancient Romans. It is a walled city and is world renowned for its Gothic cathedral, York Minster, built in the 13th Century which has stunning medieval stained glass and two bell towers. A planned exhibition of my work at the art cafe Cafe 68 Gillygate, York spurred me into action to create this, my third map. The research prior to creating this York map took me a few weeks. I visited York where I took many photographs and created sketches of the local landmarks and attractions. The time then came to choosing a colour to create this York map from. I decided this was to be a one metre wide map, the same as my Harrogate map, so I once again chose the colour turquoise. It's such a fresh colour which goes perfectly with many interior decor schemes. On the reverse of the paper, I started to draw the roads in, then added the York landmarks and attractions, finally adding extra details such as cyclists near York Minster, people shopping or the boats sailing down the River Ouse. I absolutely love details, so had a field day adding tiny stories onto this map. Look carefully and you can see dog walkers on the banks of the Ouse, can you see a rabbit? Everything has to be drawn in reverse so all the writing is back to front and all the windows, doors and profiles of the buildings. I added such landmarks as the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey in the Museum Gardens, Clifford’s Tower and the Castle Museum, the Merchant Adventurer’s Hall, the Treasurer’s House and King’s Manor. Then the time came for paper cutting, I took my scalpel, a bit like a surgeon's knife and started cutting. I whiled away over two hundred hours paper cutting this York map. Cutting out York Minster took hours as I had to measure out the perfect proportions and then carefully cut each detail out. I just use a pencil, rubber, ruler and my eyesight when I create a paper cut design, no computers are involved. Eventually I turned the map over. This is the moment when you discover when you have or have not made a mistake… Luckily it was perfect. I mounted this York map onto a blue background which perfectly complements the turquoise. It is also available as Limited Edition Giclee prints in the original colours in A4, A3 or the original size. I was really pleased with the end result. I completed this map in time for the exhibition and it hung in pride of place. I sold it that night to a gold badge City guide so it is staying in York. This York map makes a perfect souvenir of a York or even a guide to the city. For those who love York it makes a perfect present or piece of artwork to enjoy in the home or office. It perfectly complements most interior decoration either in the Office or in the home. It measures 60cm x 84cm. Frame measures 84cm x 104cm. Limited Edition of 50. World's Greatest Cycle Race Stainless Steel Tour de France ArtworkThe inspiration for this paper cut picture came to me one night. I quickly sketched the idea down featuring different Tour de France cyclists cycling around a wheel with the Yorkshire Rose in the middle. Amazingly I had subconsciously sketched 12 cyclists, as many people have pointed out since this paper cut would make a great design for a clock. I set to researching different Tour de France cyclists in different racing positions, sketching out the design on a piece of yellow paper, a yellow which was close to the Tour de France colour. It then took me days to finely cut out each cyclist with a tiny scalpel and add the detail to this paper cut. I used many blades to trace This Tour de France design has proved very popular. We, in Yorkshire absolutely loved having this unique race in our county brought here by Sir Gary Verity of Welcome to Yorkshire. As a Harrogate artist, I felt I wanted to mark the occasion with a special piece of artwork to celebrate the Tour de France finishing in our town of Harrogate. So many people have special memories of that cycling race, where they were that day, who they were with, which part of the race they saw... indeed they are still talking about it. I was at the finishing line in Hotel du Vin for the first day of the Grand Depart, so I saw most of the cycling race on the television. I have never seen so many people converge on Harrogate all at once to see the finish that day. The atmosphere was electric that day as we all waited near the finishing line to see the Tour de France rider, Mark Cavendish, cycle up Parliament Street. Unfortunately he was knocked off his bike near Bettys on the way to the finishing line. I have produced this design as a Limited Edition Stainless Steel art work and there are 20o in the edition. I have also produced a laser cut and a Limited Edition giclee print of the design. This paper cut design would suit any interior decor either in an office or in the home. This cycling picture compliments the paper cut map, The Cycle Tour of Yorkshire, which I also produced for the Tour de France Grand Depart 2014. It comes framed in a sleek brushed metal effect frame which measures 51cms x 52cms. A P&P charge of £30 applies in the UK due to the artwork's weight and value. Please contact us for details of overseas shipping. Please allow up to one month for delivery.
Scarborough Original PaintingI sat on the cliff overlooking Scarborough Bay, Yorkshire to paint this picture one hot sunny day. There is nothing better than hearing the sounds of Seagulls and children enjoying themselves on this Scarborough beach.! Scarborough is one of those magical seaside towns which is only slighly touched by commercialism and a great place to have a family holiday. It is only an hour's drive from Harrogate, Yorkshire. I have used a pebble and Seagulls feather to paint en plein air as I blended the bright coloured gouache and watercolour paints to paint this Yorkshire scene. The vast sandy bay and tiny buildings surrounding it were captured in detail. This landscape painting would suit all interior decor either in a home or office. The picture, painted on a thick watercolour paper with a deckled edge is float mounted onto a white mount board with a white contemporary box frame. You can see this Yorkshire painting in my Gallery and artist's studio situated in Harrogate, Yorkshire. Available for collection from The Dove Tree Art Studio only.

From the Brigg Limited Edition Giclee PrintOne fiery, hot, sunny day I settled on top of Filey Brigg next to the Country Car Park with a piece of paper and my Gouache paints and painted the Regatta unfolding before my eyes. I used a Seagull's feather to paint with. This seascape has a Mediterranean feel to it, I love the colour blue in all its hues. Filey is close to many people's hearts, filled with childhood memories of playing in all weathers on the wide open, sandy beach. Our parents sitting in deckchairs with windbreaks and thermos flasks in the rain! Or...glorious sunshine when we all came back toasty brown as though we had actually been to the Mediterranean. I used rectangular deckled edged water colour paper to encapsulate the panoramic coastal view, a moment in time. Teal Harmony Framed Original PaintingTurquoise, teal and its complementary colours create a vibrancy when using acrylics. I sat at the side of a lake one morning with the sun rising. The only company I had being the local ducks, a few canoeists and passing runners. Hazlewood Castle Limited Edition Giclee PrintAs Artist in Residence here I have a particular affinity with this stunning Yorkshire Castle and grounds. Hazlewood Castle, Hazlewood, near York, Yorkshire dates back to the 12th Century when it was used as a castle. Today it is open to the public and run as a hotel by Ashdale Hotels mainly as a wedding venue and spa. It is open to non-residents too with delicious meals and afternoon tea served in the hotel. I created the original paper cut which I handmade just using a scalpel, rubber, pencil and my eyesight. It took me two months to finish and features multiple layers of paper. Love Yorkshire, Love the Countryside Giclee PrintLiving in Yorkshire in this stunning countryside can't fail to inspire artists. I love walking the dog through green, lush fields, seeing an abundance of wildlife everywhere, rabbits, hares, deer, badgers squirrels and if you are lucky hedgehogs and once I saw a mole struggling to get in its hole...I helped it. There are so many different parts of Yorkshire, the undulating Dales, including Coverdale and Nidderdale, Whardedale with the rivers. All great to sketch and paper cut with a tiny scalpel. In fact, I have sketched the different landscapes for my one metre long paper cut for the Tour de France Grand Depart 2014 when it came to Yorkshire. Love Yorkshire is sketched from the top of Almscliffe Crag. This is a millstone Grit outcrop located near the villages of Huby, Weeton and North Rigton. It is a place of breathtaking beauty as you climb the top of Almscliffe Crag to see the whole of Yorkshire as you turn 360 degrees. Spot the White Horse in the distance near the horizon, the Wharfedale Valley with Otley and Ilkley in the distance. At the other side you can see Harrogate with its valley and viaduct. To the other side you can see Huby, Weeton and Castley with its viaduct. I have spent many hours up here walking the dog and know the landscape well. One view which inspired one of my paper cuts is the view of a farm at the back of The Crag. I sat up there and sketched the Yorkshire landscape, capturing the low flying Swallows, the rabbits below in the fields, the farm walls, the cows, sheep and the farm itself. Back in my working studio and art gallery, I chose a piece of thin paper and sketched the scene out. Everything is in reverse. I added the words Love Yorkshire, Love the Countryside as I feel that this piece of artwork represents the love we all feel for our green, lush County of Yorkshire...the countryside, wildlife, the drystone walls, farms and animals. This Yorkshire landscape paper cut would make a good present for someone who Loves Yorkshire and maybe doesn't live there anymore. Indeed for anyone who loves Yorkshire, this would make a perfect piece of artwork to decorate a home or office. It is a Giclee Print, printed on archive paper using colourfast paper. I have signed it and it comes with a certificate of authenticity. This unframed Giclee print measures 18cm x 25cm. UK P&P £5. Please allow one week for delivery. The original paper cut can be seen at The Dove Tree Art Studio, Harrogate.

The Mist and Magic of the Yorkshire Dales Original PaintingThe Yorkshire Dales is a stunning National Park, an area of outstanding beauty in North Yorkshire near Harrogate. The landscape varies as you travel around from tiny stone cottages clustered in villages to the wide open scenery of countryside complete with animals. Every time I see this landscape it takes my breath away. The Yorkshire Dales changes in different lights, inspiring me to paint. This painting was created En Plein Air near Skipton in North Yorkshire. As I observed the scene, mist came down covered the landscape and so the colours blurred. This is painted in watery acrylics with pastels. I love painting outside using found objects, you can be so creative! I found a stone, moss and grass to paint with and set to capturing the scene. I have also used chalk pastels to draw into this painting. This original artwork of the Yorkshire Dales would be ideal to compliment any interior design scheme. Its soft muted tones would work well against today's on trend muted coloured walls in homes and offices. It would also make an ideal gift for Valentines Day, Mothers Day or Fathers Day to someone who loves the Yorkshire Dales and has an affinity with it. The picture is unframed, it can be collected from The Dove Tree Art Studio and gallery in Harrogate, Yorkshire or posted for an extra £10. If required it could be framed. It is signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Enjoy Harrogate Map Giclee PrintMy first ever paper cuts were Tiger Tiger and Paradise one metre designs, which were inspired by 15th Century rugs. This Harrogate map is the third project I set myself. My art gallery is in Harrogate and I thought what better way for people to find my art studio than for me to design a map with tiny details on showing the main attractions and landmarks and things we all love about this historical town. My first task was to choose some paper. I love the colour turquoise, it is such a vibrant colour which would compliments most modern décor, so in my art studio, The Dove Tree Art Studio, I laid out the paper. Using a guide, my first job was to plot the map drafting the roads in pencil. When paper cutting this map, I drew everything on the back of the paper. I started drawing out the roads and then added the historical buildings such as The Royal Hall, Turkish Baths, Pump Room and Cenotaph. Next followed the landmarks of Harrogate including the two notable green spaces in the middle of the town, one of which being The Stray. It is used by many clubs and enjoyed by many habitants of Harrogate and surrounding villages. It occupies 200 acres of grass parkland and dates back to 1778. Here I incorporated runners and dog walkers enjoying the Stray whilst at one end there is a football net and two boys playing. I then drew the Valley Gardens situated on this Harrogate map near the Pump Room. This immaculately kept park is covered in flowers planted and maintained by the Harrogate Borough Council's gardeners. I love the cafe building and have included a couple of people sitting enjoying a coffee outside. Next it became the time for cutting, using a tiny scalpel I set to it. All the roads on this map had to be carefully cut out. In fact, everything is in reverse when you paper cut, all of the writing and buildings have to be back to front. The trees took hours as I hand cut out the leaves on each of the trees. All in all it took me three months to complete from the research, drawing and cutting out. I then had this Harrogate map photographed for taking Giclee prints from. Giclee prints are made using colourfast inks printed on archive paper. This map has been reproduced in the original turquoise colour, a turquoise and burgundy/pink colour and a grey/dark grey combination. It is available in 3 sizes A4, A3 and the original one metre long size. This map is reproduced as a laser cut in the original size. These Harrogate maps make perfect presents for those that love Harrogate, are perfect memorabilia and have been purchased by many people to decorate their houses in Harrogate. There is a colour and size to suit everyone. You can see the map on the wall at William and Victoria, a very well-known restaurant in the middle of Harrogate. I was pleased with the finished result in fact the original map was bought by an American collector and is now in America. Time well spent. UK P&P applied at checkout. Please allow one week for delivery.

Hackfall Original PaintingThis is Fairyland! I learnt about this gem from Bridget who used to work at The Tourist Information Centre in Harrogate when I opened my gallery 5 years ago. However tempus fugit and in Autumn I finally managed to discover its entrancing beauty with a friend. Hackfall is a tiny wood in Grewelthorpe near Ripon containing secret paths, follies, waterfalls and fountains. This landscape painting was painted outside en plein air with vibrant acrylics capturing the light on the stream. I have tried to convey the mystery of Hackfall which is truly magical. I used a twig to paint the tree to paint with and leaves to add texture. I used thick Sanderford watercolour paper to create this landscape painting which is float mounted in a white contemporary box frame. It would suit any office or home adding a vibrancy to your interior decor. Unframed painting measures 76cm x 56cm. It is available for collection only from The Dove Tree Art Studio.
Scarborough Original PaintingWhen we were young there were various seaside towns families would spend their holidays in. Filey, Bridlington and Scarborough were all places we used to frequent regularly. I sat on top of the cliff with my dog on hot sunny day, overlooking the glorious Scarborough bay. With a Seagull's feather in my hand I captured the scene before me. This is painted in bright coloured gouache, I love how the paint runs and creates misty marks. This seascape was painted this over a few days. there's nothing like sitting outside hearing the Seagull's and smelling he fresh sea air as the waves break on the beach. The resulting painting which is painted on thick Sanderford watercolour paper complete with a deckled edge is float mounted and I have chosen a white contemporary box frame. It is also available unframed or if you want to choose a different frame please get in touch. The original is hanging in my art gallery and studio, The Dove Tree Art Studio, in central Harrogate ready for someone who adores Scarborough. Available for collection only from The Dove Tree Art Studio, Harrogate.

Mist over Wharfedale Original PaintingI awoke early one morning and ventured up to sit on Almscliffe Crag to paint the mist unveiling the countryside in the Wharfedale Valley. It's so magical up there as Swallows dive for insects, Pigeons circle and coo and you can watch the world awake. Water colour and gouache was the perfect choice to capture this scene on this thick, Sanderford, watercolour paper. I used twigs and tiny bits of rock found on this ancient Crag to paint with. I was pleased with the result, the paint has captured the ethereal atmosphere here, it's so spiritual. This painting is framed in a contemporary white frame. The painting is float mounted that is not in a mount, mounted onto the backing board. It would suit anyone who loves the countryside and would also make a great present. The Angel of the North Limited Edition Giclee PrintThe Angel of the North contemporary steel sculpture by Antony Gormley stands majestically with its wings outstretched guarding the North of England. It was completed in 1998 and is 20 metres tall and 54 metres across. I was approached by Hydram, a large sheet metal stainless steel company in Durham to create a paper cut of The Angel of the North, they would then replicate the image and laser cut it from stainless steel from their factory. So with my family, we visited the Angel of the North which is situated in Gateshead, just next to the A1 near Newcastle upon Tyne. It is sited amongst residential housing in a field. We were all drawn to this amazing, imposing sculpture in corten steel. My son particularly couldn't wait to touch the Angel of the North. There is something so powerful about the way it has been designed by Anthony Gormley with vast horizontal wings pointing in both directions to the end of the earth. I love the earthy colour of the rusted steel. I took lots of reference shots with my camera and sketched away in my sketch book. Back in my Harrogate Art Gallery and working studio, I chose some rust coloured card and started to draw the proportions of the Angel in preparation for paper cutting. I just use a pencil, rubber and ruler to do this. The measuring took me a long time, trying to get the right angles and perspective of the Angel of the North. I love detaiI and added the flora and fauna surrounding the site, a rabbit, bird and people. If you look closely you can see a man and little boy touching the base of this sculpture and at the other side a lady and little girl also touching it. This Angel is also available as a copper coloured card Limited Edition laser cut with copper wings and as a stunning Stainless Steel Art work. The prints are in three colour way versions. For anyone who loves the North East, loves Antony Gormley's work, loves The Angel of the North of just loves Angels this is a perfect piece of artwork. Perfect for a present.
