Blue Blue Bluebells Original PaintingBlue is one of my favourite colours. Spring arrives and for an artist there are so many joyful scenes to paint as nature springs to life after sleeping through the Winter. I was impelled to paint a Bluebell Wood this year having painted the pinks of the Cherry Blossom on Harrogate's Stray. So Poppy my Sheepdog set out one day and discovered a public footpath to tranquillity and deepest blue in a wood near Harrogate. I have never seen such a thick carpet of glorious blue of Bluebells. We settled ourselves down for the day having carefully picked a place with young trees growing through the Bluebells. It was sheer bliss painting en plein air with the birds singing all around, so peaceful. I grabbed a twig and set to painting. I wanted to capture the almost ethereal scene and created a misty effect using lilacs and greys with a complimentary lemon green leaf colour. Then added the bluebells which were almost purple. This is the result. After a hard day's painting Poppy happily meandered back to the car and drove home for a cup of tea. Available for collection only from The Dove Tree Art Studio, Harrogate.
Cherry Blossom in Pink Original PaintingThis smaller version of my series of Cherry Blossom acrylic landscape paintings was created outside en plein air on the Stray, Harrogate in Spring. See the desciption of 'Cherry Blossom Walkway in Purple and Green' for more details of my time painting there. I used twigs to create this picture with, no paint brushes were involved. I love the pale pastel colours here, pale blue with contrasting pink in all shades. Each of this series of paintings 'My time on the Stray' series is unique. The weather in the picture was sunny and crisp and it was a joy to be outside capturing the moment. This painting heralds the arrival of Spring in its glory and would suit most homes or offices, brightening up the walls even on a dull day.
Cherry Blossom Walkway in Purple and Green Original PaintingI get so excited when Spring arrives and nature awakes after lying dormant all Winter. First the Crocuses spring through the grass on Harrogate's Stray which is a wide open park in the town centre, followed by amazing spectacle of The Cherry Blossom. As a Harrogate artist I completely identify with this amazing spectacle which only lasts for a very short period. I had set aside two weeks to solely paint the Stray on large box canvases. Little did I bargain for the icy cold Polar wind blowing from the North. However, in spite of the weather I made it my mission to set up my equipment on the Stray and paint the pink blossom in all its shades. There is nothing like painting en plein air, so with about 5 layers of clothing on I set to capturing the scene in acrylic paint. I used a twig to paint this scene, no paint brushes were involved. As I was painting the occasional petal would drift onto my painting which I always leave and it then becomes part of the canvas. I mixed each petal with a twig. It took a long time to create but I love the contrast of the deep purple and pink Cherry Blossom in this landscape picture. Most people, especially living in Harrogate love this iconic scene. This painting would suit most interior decoration bringing nature into a home or office. Available for collection from The Dove Tree Art Studio.
Crocus Carpet Original PaintingThe Harrogate Stray situated in the middle of central Harrogate is carefully maintained by the gardeners from the Borough Council. Spring is such a wondrous time as nature awakes from its sleep. I get my paints and canvases ready to capture the flowers which emerge through the grass. Crocuses followed by Daffodils followed by Cherry Blossom and then the plethora of cultivated flowers created by the gardeners. I love painting en plein air and relish the thought of sitting in front of the flowers especially the first ones of Spring. Crocuses come in all colours but this year they were planted in shades of purple one of my favourite colours. This would compliment any interior decor and would look great as a centre piece in a home or office, bringing sunshine and happiness. Canvas measures 76cm x 1metre.
Enjoy Harrogate Map CushionHand printed cushions seem to me to be the perfect way to combine my artwork and interior design. I love being creative and am always looking for different skills to learn and master. I recently learnt how to screen print onto textiles. Velvet is such a tactile, beautiful fabric and seemed so fitting to print my paper cut designs onto to create cushions. Using my own paper cut designs, I prepared the screens for hand printing. The velvet became embossed when I printed the fabric. As a Harrogate Artist I thought I would start with my Harrogate paper cut Map and my Paradise paper cut design images for these luxurious cushions. 18" Enjoy Harrogate Velvet Cushion available in different colour combinations - White velvet with purple print and purple back, white velvet with green print and green back, pale grey velvet with navy print and navy back or white velvet with turquoise print and white back.
